Elden Ring: How to Complete Rya's Questline
Here's a full walkthrough of Rya's quest, including critical decisions, locations, and how it ties into your hunt for Elden Ring Runes and loot.
Step 1: Meeting Rya in Liurnia of the Lakes
Your first encounter with Rya happens early in your journey through Liurnia of the Lakes. You'll find her standing under a pavilion near the Birdseye Telescope, just north of the Laskyar Ruins Site of Grace.
She'll ask for your help retrieving her stolen necklace. To continue:
Head northwest to find the Boilprawn Shack.
Speak to Blackguard Big Boggart, the thief. He'll sell the necklace back for 1,000 Elden Ring Runes.
Alternatively, you can kill him to retrieve the necklace, but this will lock you out of his questline and some late-game rewards.
Return the necklace to Rya, and she will reward you with a Volcano Manor Invitation, beginning the next phase of her story. She'll also share the two main ways to reach Altus Plateau.
Step 2: Finding Rya in Altus Plateau
Depending on how you reach the Altus Plateau, Rya will appear in one of two spots:
Ruin-Strewn Precipice Route: She will be near the Lux Ruins, up the stairs from the Erdtree-Gazing Hill Site of Grace.
Grand Lift of Dectus: Look to the left after reaching the top platform.
If she doesn't appear, teleport to the Grand Lift and ride it again to reset her spawn.
Important: If you access Leyndell, Royal Capital via Fia's questline, Rya may not appear at either location.
Once found, Rya offers to teleport you directly to Volcano Manor.
Step 3: Rya's Snake Form and the Secret Room
After joining Volcano Manor and completing your first assassination (Old Knight Istvan), Rya relocates inside the manor and is revealed in her true snake-like form.
Speak to her in this form to progress the quest.
Complete the second contract: Rileigh the Idle.
Return to Rya, now in her human form, and she'll mention strange noises from the next room, a clue to a hidden illusory wall.
Enter this wall and find the Prison Town Church Site of Grace.
Report back to Rya to advance the story further.
Optional: Speak to Lady Tanith about "Zorayas' troubles" to unlock extra dialogue.
Step 4: Serpent's Amnion and Rya's Disappearance
Defeat the Godskin Noble in the Temple of Eiglay to acquire the Serpent's Amnion, a key Elden Ring Item required to continue Rya's story.
Give the Amnion to Rya. After resting at the grace, she will disappear.
Speak to Tanith again and select "Zorayas' absence". She'll give you the Tonic of Forgetfulness, an item that alters Rya's fate if used.
Note: If you've already completed all assassination contracts, the tonic will only become available after defeating Rykard. Otherwise, Rya leaves it behind on her chair.
Step 5: Finding Rya in the Legacy Dungeon
Rya relocates to a hidden room within the Legacy Dungeon section of Volcano Manor. Reaching her requires navigating a series of tricky lava-filled areas and elevators near the Temple of Eiglay:
Use the wooden elevator beside the Temple of Eiglay grace.
Exit at a near-top hidden door and jump out the window.
Cross a lava flow and fight through a Man-Serpent enemy.
Descend a ladder and enter a small alcove where Rya waits.
Alternatively, jump from the top floor balcony in the Temple of Eiglay to reach the lava pit, traverse the area, and find her room that way.
Step 6: Choosing Rya's Fate
When you find her, you'll face a crucial choice with lasting consequences:
Kill Her
She transforms back into a snake and drops Daedicar's Woe, a talisman that increases damage taken, a unique but situational Elden Ring Item.
Give Her the Tonic of Forgetfulness
She goes to sleep. After defeating Rykard, she reappears in the Manor. Reloading the area reveals Daedicar's Woe on the floor.
Let Her Live
If you return after defeating Rykard without giving her the tonic, she expresses acceptance of her identity. Reload the area and find both Zorayas' Letter and Daedicar's Woe left behind.
Each choice yields different lore outcomes, but all end with the same item reward.
Final Notes
Completing Rya's quest provides deep insight into the dark practices of Volcano Manor and the origins of its members.
Her story weaves tragedy with transformation, ending with one of the more emotional arcs in Elden Ring.
Whether you're farming Elden Ring Runes, collecting unique Elden Ring Items, or pursuing every storyline, Rya's quest is essential for completionists.
