Defensive Coordinator: Ideally, Strategist, or at least a mix of Strategist and Motivator

 

By stacking these abilities, you’ll not only recruit better players but also retain them, even if they have some red flags with playing style or playing time. The Strategist role is particularly important because it helps alleviate some of the issues with playing style. When you run a Strategist stack, it can drop the severity of dealbreakers, making it easier to keep players happy.

 

2. Utilize "Lower the Bar."

 

If you’re dealing with playing style or playing time issues, using the "Lower the Bar" ability is a game-changer. This ability can help you retain players who might otherwise be on the verge of transferring. When you're a smaller school, this ability is especially helpful because it can open up more opportunities for recruits you might not otherwise have access to. By using Lower the Bar, you get a bit of a cushion that allows you to recruit without having to worry as much about dealbreakers. This is especially effective in the first few years of a dynasty when you're building your program.
