Legendary Item Guide: The Heavyweight in Borderlands 4

Welcome back to another installment of our legendary item guide series! Today, we’re diving into one of the unique armors in Borderlands 4: The Heavyweight. This legendary item is a great addition for players looking to enhance their melee capabilities, making it a valuable piece to equip as you progress through the game. If you're interested in maximizing your loadout, make sure to check out where to buy Borderlands 4 Weapons to complement your new armor effectively. Let’s explore how to get The Heavyweight and what it does!

Where to Find the Heavyweight

To obtain the Heavyweight, you’ll need to head to Lic's Black Site located in the Terminus Range. However, it's essential to note that you must have progressed far enough in the main story of the Terminus Range to gain access to this location.

Quick Access Tip: To reach Lic's Black Site quickly, ensure that you have the Night Cap safe house activated. From there, you can fast travel and drive straight to the location.

Boss Battle: Vile Prototype

You will need to farm the Vile Prototype to get the Heavyweight to drop. Before you battle the Vile Prototype, make sure to activate Moxy's big encore machine at the site; otherwise, the boss will not spawn.

Once you’re in, traverse through the two rooms until you reach the boss. Be prepared for a fight as this can get chaotic.

Heavyweight Overview

The Heavyweight is a legendary armor shield manufactured by Vladof. It has a distinct purple and green design, signifying its corrosive resistance.

· Primary Stats: The Heavyweight has variable stats based on your roll:

· Elemental Resistance: Your Heavyweight can spawn with various elemental resistances, including non-elemental, fire, shock, corrosive, cryo, and radiation. My version only has corrosive resistance.

· Unique Ability: Bare Knuckle

· On melee hit, it consumes an armor segment to grant a +100% melee damage boost.

· When the armor shield is empty, it grants a +50% melee damage bonus.

· Red Text Flavor: “We call that the stinger.”

Testing the Heavyweight

While I don’t run a dedicated melee build, it’s still interesting to test the Heavyweight’s unique ability.

At the Bones of Sanctuary, I tested the Heavyweight on a damage dummy:

1. Base Melee Damage: My initial melee damage was 5,237.

2. With Heavyweight’s Ability: After activating the Heavyweight’s ability (using an armor segment), my damage boosted to:

· 10,475 damage.

3. Empty Armor Shield: Without any armor segments to consume, my melee damage increased to:

· 6,724 damage, a solid increase due to the +50% bonus.

Conclusion

While my character isn’t tailored for a melee build, the Heavyweight still proves to be beneficial. Melee hasn’t been the most viable option in Borderlands 4 outside certain glitches or exploits, but with the right build, the Heavyweight can shine.
